Shomrim Offers Emergency Text Notification Alerts for All Phones

By Yehudit Garmaise

All Boro Parkers, whether they use flip phones or smartphones, can now receive notifications via text, in cases of emergencies, just by texting 929-383-6778, and typing “Shomrim.”

“After texting in one time, everyone will automatically be added in our to our emergency notification list,” said a Shomrim volunteer, who explained the new text messaging system is in response to the recent presence of anti-Semitic attacks.

People who want to sign up for Shomrim’s emergency texts need not worry about getting bombarded with unnecessary notifications because Boro Parkers who sign up for the emergency text messages will only be notified in cases of emergencies.

Shomrim’s new texting notifications are only for the organization to alert Boro Parkers of urgent danger, and not for residents to report issues. To report emergencies, residents must continue to call the Boro Park Shomrim Patrol hotline at (718) 871-6666.

“Now, whether or not they have smartphones, all Boro Parkers can be alerted immediately in the event of emergencies, such as the presence of any violence, a missing person, hazardous weather, or power outages," the volunteer explained.
