COJO of Staten Island Congratulates Deputy Mark C. Molinari Inspector on His Appointment as Staten Island Detective Borough Commander

On March 10, 2021, in the Graniteville section of Staten Island, Mendy Mirocznik, President of the Staten Island Council of Jewish Organizations and Ari Weiss, Security Chairman of the COJO Security and Coordinator of the Staten Island Shomrim met with Deputy Inspector Mark C. Molinari in his office at Patrol Borough Staten Island (PBSI)  to congratulate him on his appointment as the new Staten Island Detective Borough Commander.

Deputy Inspector Molinari, a veteran seasoned police officer brings a wealth of experience to his new position as the Staten Island Borough Commander of Detectives. Most recently, he served as the Commanding Officer of the Hate Crimes Task Force. In that citywide capacity Deputy Inspector Molinari was charged with investigating and apprehending suspects involved with hate crime and bias incidents in the five boroughs of New York City.

These are crimes, offensive and unlawful acts which are motivated in whole or substantial part by a person's, a group's or a place's identification with a particular race, color, religion, etc. Unfortunately, statistics demonstrate that an uptick in hate crimes have been of an anti-Semitic nature and have been on the rise over the course of the past half decade. Data from the Anti-Defamation League compiled in 2019 found that the total number of antisemitic incidents in 2019 increased 12 percent over the previous year, with a disturbing 56 percent increase in assaults. The audit found there were, on average, as many as six anti-Semitic incidents in the U.S. for each day in the calendar year – the highest level of antisemitic activity ever recorded by ADL since tracking began in 1979.

One of the key people involved in fighting and in the prevention of hate crimes has been Deputy Inspector Mark C. Molinari. “From a police perspective, Deputy Inspector Mark Molinari has investigated nearly all of those hate crimes committed citywide for the past several years and has been on the forefront in investigating, apprehending and prosecuting successfully these crimes. This is the wealth of police experience that Inspector Molinari is bringing to his new post as Staten Island Detective Borough Commander. Additionally, Deputy Inspector served the Special Victims Unit with distinction for several years prior to thatThese police skills will serve to enhance policing as Deputy Inspector Molinari takes on his new responsibilities as Staten Island Detective Borough Commander,” said Mendy Mirocznik, President of COJO.

At the meeting, Deputy Inspector Molinari outlined his vision that he has and that he is bringing to Staten Island Detectives and reviewed some current security issues as they pertain to covid and to Staten Island in particular. These issues that are of grave importance to COJO.

“One thing I know that Staten Island is fortunate to have COJO which cares about all the people who reside in Staten Island. The NYPD considers COJO to be a great community partner and the success is based upon our constant communication and collaboration on community projects. It is organizations like COJO which Staten Island is blessed with which will beneficially help the NYPD as we return and transition back to a cured post COVID world. I know the NYPD and Staten Island can count on COJO being there for everyone.”
