Two Months After Meron Tragedy, Changes Begin in Area
As Klal Yisroel remains shocked at the magnitude of the Meron Tragedy this past Lag Ba’omer—tragedy that has only been compounded by the crushing blows that have hit Klal Yisroel in the ensuing months—the news comes from Meron that changes are finally being implemented in the area.
Given that the calamity resulted from inadequate infrastructure to meet the needs of the enormous crowds—forcing swarms of humanity through tiny passageways that have long been seen as a tragedy waiting to happen, R”l—authorities today began dismantling all illegally constructed structures in the entire area, a small first step in what will surely be a wide-ranging answer to this burning issue.
Many in the community have been disappointed with the snail pace of the reaction to the tragedy—with a committee to investigate the precise causes of tragedy having been formed only days ago.
With an extra month due to the “ibbur yohr”, it is hoped that their recommendations will be implemented in time for Lag Ba’omer 5782.
