NYC Reports Zero COVID Deaths and Lowest Positivity Rate Since the Beginning of the Pandemic
When only 0.83% of COVID-19 positivity rates came back positive in the last seven days and zero deaths, New York City reached the lowest COVID-19 positivity the city has seen since the pandemic began, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced this morning at his press conference.
“Since we started testing and measuring, this is the lowest level that we’ve had,” Mayor de Blasio said. “It’s absolutely amazing.
"I'll tell you what vaccinations have done for us. We have the lowest positivity rate we've ever had since this crisis began because people got vaccinated. It couldn't be clearer. Let's keep going."
Mayor de Blasio, who celebrated what he called “a crucial” milestone, continues to encourage eligible New Yorkers who still have not gotten vaccinated to get their shots.
“Vaccines equal freedom, it’s as simple as that,” said the mayor, who proudly added that the city has administered 8,289,469 COVID-19 doses.
To continue to incentivize residents to get their shots, New Yorkers who sign up in June and July to get shots at city-run sites have a chance at winning one of 20 two-night “staycations” at Manhattan hotels, Mayor de Blasio said.
“This is another clear fact, another clear piece of evidence that New York City is coming back strong,” the mayor said. “The numbers are strong.”
