Masbia Soup Kitchen Two Brooklyn locations are Doubling in Size Right Before the Big Pesach Season

Due to the 500% increase in demand, Masbia's Brooklyn locations are doubling in size and renting the storefront next door in both locations. The increased space will be used to help us with the huge challenge of food inventory and eventually enable us to begin serving ready-to-eat meals indoors.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, all our dining rooms were used as warehouses due to the enormous increase in food supply we were using. All ready-to-eat food is served to-go. We went from using 2-3 trailer loads of food to over a dozen. The additional space comes right at the start of the Passover season, where in regular years we usually see a huge increase in demand.

Masbia of Boro Park will be renting three floors in the adjacent building. That's the storefront, basement and second floor. Masbia of Flatbush will rent the storefront and basement in a building one door over. Both sites will have double the square footage they currently have.

"Before the pandemic, food items lasted for over a month. Now, they're gone in a matter of days. Keeping up with supply has become not only a matter of resources, but of logistics. So in addition to now ordering way more food, we will at least have somewhere to put it when it arrives. This also will enable us to do a lot more food rescues, which means get more donated food and stretch our charity dollars even more by buying food by the container-load", explained Alexander Rapaport, ED of Masbia Soup Kitchen Network.

Masbia locations are open five days a week, 24 hours a day and is struglling to close the gap between the 50,000 families who are seeking pick-up appointments every week and the current pick-up capacity of 7,500 families.

Masbia's Covid-19 food relief mobilization is funded by charity donations raised from tens of thousands grassroots style donations.
