Section 8 Applications Open for First Time in Over 10 Years- Apply at BPJCC

Brooklyn, NY—New York City HCR has made the significant announcement that they will be opening 15,000 new slots for a waiting list for new Section 8 applicants. It has been over ten years since this waiting list has opened up in New York City, making this a historic event for New York City residents. The qualified staff at the Boro Park Jewish Community Council are standing by, at 1310 46th Street, ready to help with the Section 8 application.

The application process is open from May 17-28. The BPJCC will assist people after Shavuos, from May 19-28. Applicants need to keep in mind that no appointments will be necessary. No documents are required for the application process either.

“Opening Section 8 to 15,000 new households is something that hasn’t happened since 2009,” says Avi Greenstein, BPJCC CEO. “We want to make sure the community can take advantage of this rare event. This is why we have quickly mobilized a dedicated Section 8 department to assist with the applications process and to answer any questions people might have.”

New York City will use a lottery system to select 15,000 households for the Section 8 waitlist. Those selected will be offered a Section 8 voucher when one becomes available (applying does not guarantee a Section 8 voucher).
