NYPD Will Increase Presence in NYC, Mainly Brooklyn, Over Labor Day Weekend

On Thursday, during a press briefing, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a plan he constructed to keep New Yorkers safe over Labor Day Weekend as COVID-19 remains a threat, and gun violence continues to surge.

There will be an extra-strong NYPD presence across the city as shooting incidents have risen by nearly 166 percent compared to the same period last year.

The NYPD's prime focus over the weekend will be on central neighborhoods in Brooklyn.

De Blasio reminds New Yorkers that the coronavirus is still a threat, and big parties are not allowed, especially over the holidays, when people tend to gather in large groups.

"We want to say to everyone: please for the safety of yourself, your family, your community, if there's a gathering it has to be kept to under 50 people, and it has to be kept smart," de Blasio said. "We cannot take a chance with people's health."
