Mayor De Blasio Cancels Schools, Alternate Side Parking, and Vaccines Tomorrow Because of Snowstorm

   Monday will not have in-person school, Mayor Bill de Blasio just announced. Public schools will have remote learning, only. 

   The mayor will provide an update tomorrow after up to 16 inches of snow might descend on New York City tonight.

    Also cancelled are food distribution from the schools, alternate side parking, Open Restaurants, and the vaccines that were scheduled for Monday.

    Mayor de Blasio said that he hopes that New Yorkers who have vaccine appointments on Tuesday will be able to keep those appointment.

    “This is going to be a significant winter event,” said Deane Criswell, who is the commissioner of the department New York City Emergency Management. “We are going to see steady, light snow tonight, which is going to pick up in intensity after midnight.

   Criswell, who President Joe Biden just named as the first woman to serve as the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, added that she will be issuing a travel advisory later this afternoon, as travel conditions in New York City will be very dangerous tonight and tomorrow.

   “Tomorrow, we will probably have four to five inches of snow on the ground for the commute,” said Criswell, who said most New Yorkers should stay off the roads, except for emergency workers, such as healthcare workers and other frontline workers who have to get to work.

   Sanitation Department Commissioner Edward Grayson explained that liquid pre-treatments, salt, and snowplows are “at the ready” to clear the streets as quickly as possible for the city’s slow and methodical response to make the streets safe during and after the expected blizzard tonight
