Mayor Adams Proposes New City Agency in State of the City Address

In his State of the City address on Wednesday evening, Mayor Eric Adams proposed the establishment of a “Department of Sustainable Delivery.” 

The department would regulate the thousands of delivery people on bikes, e-bikes, scooters, and other ‘micro-mobility’ modes in New York City. This industry is mostly driven by technology, and the government would like to catch up to this fast-growing industry in order to regulate it. 

The regulations governing these delivery people are currently divided under the jurisdiction of two other city agencies, and Mayor Adams proposes to govern them under this new agency.  

The process would take the mayor through negotiations with the city council who would deliberate on this issue before it can become a reality.
