'F Train to See Big Changes Over Next 8 Months

Boro Park - Riders of the F Train will see major changes in the coming few months as the MTA does repairs the tunnel under the East River.

To keep inconvenience to a minimum, the repairs will be done on nights and weekends, with all changes only happening from 9:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. and from Friday night through Monday morning.

The service changes will happen in the three weeks starting tomorrow, for one week each in October and November, and for four months in early 2021. During these times, there will be no service at the station at East Broadway and York Street. Instead, there will be free shuttle buses to nearby subway stations.

Additionally, F trains will be rerouted on the A and C lines between Jay St-MetroTech in Brooklyn and W 4 St in Manhattan, and on the E line between W 4 St in Manhattan and 36 St in Queens.

The service changes are due to the MTA repairing the Rutgers Tube, through which the F Train travels under the East River, from damages sustained during Superstorm Sandy in 2012. The Rutgers is the eleventh and final MTA tunnel under a major body of water to be repaired due to damage from Sandy.
