BDE: Reb Yitzchuk Rosenberg, Z”L

We are saddened to inform the community of the petira of Reb Yitzchuk Rosenberg, Z”L, who was 91.

Reb Rosenberg, a Pupa Chusid, was born in Kobo, Hungary, which is in the district of Debrecen, in 1930. He was the son of Rav Moshe Zev Rosenberg, zt”l, who was the rav of Kobo, and Rebbetzin Raizy Rosenberg, a”h.

The Rosenbergs and their five sons and three daughters survived the concentration camps, but upon the family’s return to Kobo, Rav Rosenberg, zt”l, was tragically shot in a pogrom.

After living with his siblings for a time in an orphanage in Budapest, Reb Rosenberg went with his brother, Reb Avrom and Yeshia Rosenberg to Antwerp, Belgium, to learn at the Yeshiva of Rav Yosef Grunwald, zt”l, who was the Pupa Rebbe.

After learning with the Pupa Rebbe, Reb Rosenberg married his wife Sura Rosenberg, a”h, whose petira was just a couple of weeks ago, and moved to Boro Park.

Together, they raised their son, Chaim Rosenberg, who learned at Yeshiva Bear Shmuel in Boro Park and now lives in Flatbush.

For at least 20 years, Reb Rosenberg served as the chazzan of the Congregation Noam Elimelech-Lizensk, which is located at 1402 59th St. and led by Rabbi Leifer

“He prayed very nicely, and he sung Shabbos songs especially nicely,” said Reb Avraham Rosenberg, who is one of Reb Rosenberg’s nephews. “'Kol Mekadesh', 'Koh Ribon Olam,' and 'Menicha v’simcha' were songs for which my uncle was particularly known.”

For parnassah, with his brother Avrom Rosenberg, a”h, and his sister, Rivka Brody, Reb Rosenberg owned a factory that made belts for men and women.

In addition to being a devoted father, Reb Rosenberg also, throughout his life, substantially helped his many nieces and nephews, said Reb Avraham Rosenberg, who is one of 14 siblings.

   What did he help with?

“Every wedding!” his nephew said. “What else can you help with? He was a special uncle.”

Reb Rosenberg’s levaya will take place on Wednesday at 10am at the Pupa Beis Medrish, which is located at 1139 53rd St., and his kvura will take place at the Floral Park Cemetery in South Brunswick Township, NJ.

     Yehi Zichro Boruch.
