Anarchists Plan to Take Over NYC Subways to Protest Fares

New York – A radical anarchist group is planning on taking over New York City’s subway system this afternoon in protest of what they call the unfair need to pay for rides.

A masked and hooded spokesman for the Decolonize This Place group said in a Twitter video that the mob will make their move at 5 o’clock Friday afternoon of J31, referring to Jan. 31, at the Grand Central Station in Manhattan.

“The streets are ours,” the tweet said. “The trains our ours. The walls are ours. This moment is ours.”

Protest organizers — ironically enough, the anarchist group has organizers — say it is to display their anger over the recent addition of 500 cops in the transit system as a crime reduction measure. They’re also upset that the officers will be cracking down on fate evasion.

The NYPD said it was aware of the protest and would have “adequate police presence in place.”

Decolonize This Place is also preparing to use violence against police.

“We’re always worried with police violence and escalation,” said the organizer. “We saw that in Harlem when they brutalized a lot of people. We can’t be afraid of police. It’s the police who should be afraid of people.”
