Two More Suspected Coronavirus Cases in NY, Bringing Total to 9

New York – There has been no confirmed cases, but two more suspected instances of coronavirus have turned up in New York state on Monday, bringing the total to nine. Of these, three have been proved negative while the rest are pending.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that the state has sent patient samples of the virus that has devastated a province in China to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for testing. Those six individuals remain in isolation in the interim.

The state is preparing for an influx of travelers from China later this week, as people begin returning to the U.S. following Lunar New Year celebrations in China. The Department of Health has posted multilingual signs about the virus at all four regional international airports, and the MTA is putting signs on subways and buses.

Symptoms of the novel coronavirus may include a runny nose, headache, cough, sore throat and fever. While there is currently no vaccine for this virus, everyday preventative actions can help stop the spread of this and other respiratory viruses.
