Yachad of Bobov rushes to meet Hatzolah of Montreal with equipment as Quebec Faces Covid’s Second Wave
By Yehudit Garmaise:
After the head of Quebec Public Health declared yesterday that the second wave of COVID-19 has, unfortunately, arrived, Hatzolah of Montreal called Yachad of Bobov in Boro Park yesterday, urgently requesting extra medical equipment to treat patients.
Responding immediately to the needs of the heimishe community just north of the Canadian border, Yachad of Bobov packed medical equipment in a van that hit the road within an hour of getting the call from Hatzolah of Montreal.
After driving five hours to meet a crew from Hatzolah of Montreal halfway, Yachad of Bobov gave over many pieces of necessary medical equipment, such as oxygen concentrators, which concentrate oxygen from a gas supply, such as the ambient air and removes nitrogen to supply an oxygen-enriched product gas stream for patients; nasal cannulas, which deliver oxygen to patients in whatever concentration they need; and equipment pulse oximetry, which measures oxygen levels in the blood.
Similar to current spikes in COVID infections in Brooklyn and Queens, Quebec health authorities are also reporting a dramatic increase in new COVID cases.
As Covid-19 cases started to climb this month, on Sept. 8, the Quebec government unveiled a color-coded COVID-19 alert system that informs its citizens of the severity of the regions in which they live. Under Quebec’s color-coded system, green represents the lowest risk, then yellow, then orange, and then red, which signifies the maximum need for the community to take precautions, such as wearing masks and remaining socially distant from others to prevent widespread COVID infections.
