Wildfires from Western States and Canada Bring Orange, Smoky Haze to NYC

Wildfires from Western States and Canada Bring Orange, Smoky Haze to NYC

The 860 large wildfires that are currently raging in both southwest Canada and in western American states across the US and in have not only burned more than 1 million acres, the National Interagency Fire Center said, but the smoke from those fires has created the current haze that has descended on New York City.

The wildfires are the result of record high temperatures and extremely dry conditions, which make the fires harder to fight, across the western United States and southwest Canada, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

“The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an air quality alert because of the  the jet stream of smoke that is driving directly toward northeast New York City-area,” explained weather enthusiast Yaker Biegeleisen, who added that the smoke from he fires was the reason Boro Parkers may have noticed a “smoky sunset and a smoky orange moon last night.”

This morning, the bright sun and the hazy skies also looked “orange and smoky,” said Mr. Biegeleisen, who said that the interesting visual effects of the smoke from the wildfires will last another day.

“Tonight’s sunset should be amazingly beautiful,” pointed out Mr. Biegeleisen, who foresaw nicer weather in the coming days, when a cold front, tomorrow afternoon, starts to cool off the air in New York City.
