Verrazano Bridge Flagged in Safety Assessment

The Verrazano Narrows Bridge is among several major U.S. bridges recommended for safety assessments by the National Transportation Safety Board. It’s one of 11 bridges in New York and 68 nationwide identified as exceeding acceptable risk levels set by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
The Brooklyn Bridge was labeled critical in the report, with the George Washington and Williamsburg bridges also flagged for evaluation. The officials stressed that this doesn’t mean the bridges are certain to collapse but it demonstrates the need for closer inspection.
