US Surpasses 100,000 Covid Deaths as it Continues Downward Trend

Washington - The grim number of 100,000 deaths from the coronavirus was swiftly overtaken Wednesday afternoon, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

the number far lower than predicted at the time the first cases began appearing in the United States. The first was in Washington state, followed by New York, where it exploded. As of the latest reading, more than 1.6 million people have tested positive for the virus.

The 100,000 figure accumulated over just four months and is higher that the number of Americans killed in the Korean and Vietnam wars combined. The U.S. has the most deaths in the world, followed by Britain, Italy and France.

Across the world, there were over 5.6 million cases and at least 352,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins.
