UFA Recognizes Death of Boro Park Firefighter as 9/11-Related

By Y.M. Lowy

The Uniformed Firefighters Association has classified the deaths of two retired FDNY members as 9/11-related, recognizing the lasting health effects of working at Ground Zero.

One of those members, Arill Nyquist, passed away on January 6, 2024, at 54. Nyquist, who served 20 years with the FDNY, spent 17 years at Engine 243 near Boro Park and worked at Ground Zero after the September 11 attacks, where he was exposed to hazardous materials that would later contribute to his health decline.

The Uniformed Firefighters Association classifying these deaths as 9/11-related honors the sacrifice of FDNY members and first responders.
