Turns Now Prohibited at Once Dangerous Intersection at 44th St.

By Yehudit Garmaise:

This morning, drivers are noticing that the Department of Transportation has put up new signs to increase the safety of the once dangerous three-way intersection at New Utrecht Ave., 44th St., and Ft. Hamilton Pkwy.

To avoid accidents, drivers can no longer turn left from New Utrecht Ave. onto 44th St. In addition, drivers cannot turn right from Ft. Hamilton Pkwy to New Utrecht Ave.

A third new sign prohibits right turns from 44th St. onto Ft. Hamilton Pkwy.

Longtime Boro Park residents report that in years past, many accidents, unfortunately, occurred at this intersection when people made turns below the train tracks, and with a public school being on this block, it was a priority zone for the DOT to enhance safety at the intersection.
