Trump Says to Delay the November Elections

President Trump believes the November election will be a ”great embarrassment to the USA” and should be postponed to a later date, when it is once again safe to vote in person.

However, dates of federal elections are set by Congress and there has been no amendment to the constitution to delay the 2020 voting day. A decision like this would require a change of federal law, it would need the approval and alliance of Democrats in the House of Representatives and Republicans in the Senate.

On Thursday, the president tweeted that, ”With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???"

In response to Trump’s post, Illinois Representative Rodney Davis wrote, ”There will be no delay in the #2020Election. Congress sets the election date, and it should not be changed. It will be held on November 3rd, as planned and required by law.”

Tweets come after polls indicate Trump is falling ten points behind Democrat Joe Biden, with less than 100 days to the election.
