Trump Again Offers Federal Help as NYC Shootings Skyrocket
New York - With crimes rising sharply, President Trump reiterated his willingness to provide federal resources to help New York City deal with the gun violence.
Trump on Sunday tweeted that bloodshed in New York City and Chicago were up drastically from the same period last year. New York has seen nearly 40 people injured and at least four dead. In Chicago, 72 people were hurt, including 13 who died.
“Chicago and New York City crime numbers are way up,” the president wrote. “Federal Government ready, willing and able to help, if asked!”
The beginning of July comes after one of the most violent Junes since the city began reducing its shootings rates in modern times. The 205 shootings during June was the bloodiest since 1996.
“Democrats want to Defund & Abolish Police,” Trump followed up in a subsequent tweet. “This despite poor crime numbers in cities that they run. CRAZY!”
