This Friday: Protect Your Catalytic Converter From Theft

By Yehudit Garmaise

Want to protect your catalytic converter from theft?

On Friday, Aug. 25, NYPD officers will etch visible serial numbers and scannable QR codes onto New Yorkers’ catalytic converters in Brooklyn.

The police officers will then enroll participants’ serial numbers into a database to be used to identify the vehicles to which stolen catalytic converters belong.

New Yorkers who participate will receive window stickers that can also help deter thieves.

On Friday,  car owners can head to the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal on 39th Street, between First and Second Avenues, from 10 am to 2 pm for the free service.

Further ways to prevent catalytic converter thefts were previously reported in BoroPark24 here.

Brooklynites can get more information on the program by calling (718) 287-3231.
