Smoke Smell in Boro Park Likely from New Jersey Brush Fire

By BoroPark24 Staff

Boro Park residents woke up to a noticeable smell of smoke this morning, which authorities attribute to a large brush fire burning in New Jersey’s Wharton State Forest, approximately 100 miles away.

Overnight, the New York City Office of Emergency Management issued an alert, notifying New Yorkers of the expected smoke drift. Meteorologists assure that the odor should clear quickly with the rainfall forecasted for today.

The fire, which has burned around 1,500 acres so far, is currently only partially contained, and New Jersey officials are investigating the cause. While firefighters are making progress, the flames remain active within parts of the forest. For now, residents are advised to stay indoors if the smell is bothersome and to follow updates from local emergency services.
