Senator Schumer Calls For Increased Funding For NY Weather Stations

Amidst the severe weather that New York has experienced in recent weeks, Senator Chuck Schumer is calling for $30 million in federal funding, an increase of $10 million from last year, for the NYS Mesonet program, which is a network of weather stations in all NY counties.
Having accurate and real-time weather updates is important all the time, but during severe weather becomes even more imperative.
Speaking specifically of the severe weather that has impacted areas like Erie County, Schumer said “We’re seeing increasing extreme weather, and that means we need to invest in the most advanced weather tracking technology for Western N.Y. and our national weather observation systems to keep our communities safe and prepared,” Schumer said.
