Say Cheese To The City Bus; You’re On Camera!

By Idy Perl

The warning period for the expanded Automated Camera Enforcement program is now officially over.

As reported by BoroPark24, city officials gave drivers a 60-day warning period after cameras were installed on all buses to capture vehicles blocking bus lanes and bus stops and double parking.

Beginning August 19, the program will officially be effect and drivers will start receiving fines. Violaters will receive a $50 fine for the first offense, and up to $250 for repeat offenses.

“Our bus network is only as effective as traffic conditions allow, which is why today’s rollout of automated camera enforcement will be a huge step forward in making our buses faster, more accessible, and greener,” Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine said. “The data shows that penalizing drivers who block bus lanes and stops is working, so expanded enforcement will be a real win for bus riders.”
