Sanitation Crews Resumed Garbage Collection Today After Snowstorm

The City of New York Department of Sanitation (DSNY) said it will resume picking up the city’s garbage today in “limited collections” after three days of using its trucks to salt the city’s streets and then clear them of snow.
The backlog of accumulated trash might take days to retrieve and sanitation crews will likely have to work overtime, warn DSNY officials, who remain upbeat, despite the work in the days cut out for them in days ahead.
"We look at these [days] as if it's our Super Bowl, just to keep us in a joyful mood,” said DSNY Assistant Chief Keith Mellis. “Now that [the snow] part is over, we're transitioning back [to get the garbage], but it's going be a lot of work. It's going take us now and even through the weekend, but we're going to work every day [to maintain the] quality of life for snow [removal], but also [we will] transition back to household [garbage] collection,"
Sanitation crews are not yet ready to collect recycling, and the DSNY is not clear when recycling pick-up will resume.
