Karlesburg ruv Leaves to Spend Lag Baomer in Meron

Boro Park - Karlesburg ruv left on Tuesday to spend Lag Baomer in Meron, continuing a tradition he's been doing for nearly fifty years.

Rav Roth, the rav of the Karlsburger kehilla in Boro Park and considered the preeminent posek of the neighborhood, spends many months each year at the kever of Rabi Shimon bar Yochai absorbed in Torah and tefilla. This includes the months from Lag Baomer through the summer and the weeks of Shovavim.

When the coronavirus pandemic hit two months ago, the rav expressed his desire to once again be in Meron this year, despite stay at home orders and the shutdown of air travel. His admirers exerted huge pains to make the wish a reality, and indeed, the rav and his son, Rav Moshe, recieved the necessary permits. They left on a United Airways flight and arrived in Israel on Wednesday.

The rav and his son will be required to remain in quarantine in Meron.
