Protect your Benefits from EBT Skimming Before December 20

By Y.M. Lowy

EBT skimming is a growing problem, and it can happen when you least expect it. Criminals use hidden devices to steal your card information while you’re swiping at a store or ATM, using that stolen data to make unauthorized purchases. Many incidents like this have been discovered in heimish grocery stores as BoroPark24 reported.

But it’s not just skimming you need to worry about—phishing scams, where fraudsters trick you into sharing your account details through fake texts or emails, are also on the rise. Even more concerning, some scammers pretend to be government employees to steal your info.

To protect yourself, always check card readers for hidden devices before swiping and report your card as stolen if you suspect fraud.

If your benefits are stolen before December 20, 2024, you can file a claim for replacement within 30 days. After that, you won’t be able to replace stolen SNAP benefits, so act fast if you suspect fraud. Call the EBT Customer Service Hotline at (888) 328-6399 for a replacement.

By staying informed, you can protect your benefits and prevent future theft.
