President Trump Criticizes Cuomo’s Shutdown of Businesses: “I Don’t Know What They are Doing”

Although Gov. Andrew Cuomo has not put end dates on his recent intensified restrictions for red zones with COVID spikes in the city, for some reason, in a phone interview with President Donald Trump this morning, Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo thought the governor had set Nov. 3, the date of the presidential election, as the end date for the lockdowns.

Trump responded that, if that were true, Gov. Cuomo’s motivation for shutting down non-essential businesses is a strategy to hurt the economy before the election.

“The Democrats want to make the economy hurt a little bit more,” Trump said. “[The Democrats think my [economic] numbers won’t be as good. But actually, the [economic] numbers for the third quarter are going to be through the roof. Retail sales, employment, all of these numbers are going to be great. I don’t know what they are doing.”

Bartiromo also asked the president about last night’s statement by Kamala Harris, the vice-presidential Democratic challenger, that she wants to eliminate “cash bail” for the country.

“We know what [eliminating cash bail] has done for New York, Mr. President,” said Bartiromo, referring to the spike in crime that quickly followed the progressive bail reform package that was passed by the New York Legislature in the 2019.

Politico reported when crime started to increase, the New York Police Department pointed the finger at the new, looser bail rules.

Agreeing with Bartiromo, President Trump said that the New York Legislature’s move toward eliminating cash bail “is one of the many things that has destroyed New York.”

When Bartiromo asked the president whether he thought his former hometown would ever come back?

Trump responded, “What has happened in New York is one of the saddest things I have ever seen happen to a city.

“Now it is happening in Chicago too. It is all Democratic-run cities. The only way it is going to come back is if you can find a young version of Rudy Giuliani, otherwise it is not.”

Bartiromo then asked the president whether his son, Don Jr., would ever run for mayor in NY.

“I hope not,” Trump said, “because he could not win as a Republican. He wouldn’t have a chance. [New York City] is an all-Democrat city,” although perhaps the president has not yet seen the many flags waving in the night for him last night on 13th Ave.
