Power Ball and Mega Millions Jackpots Continue to Soar

   Although in New York, 400,000 tickets in the Mega Millions lottery were sold, Tuesday's drawing of the Mega Millions produced no jackpot winner.

   With no big winner, the jackpot continues to soar. The upcoming Mega Millions jackpot will be $970 million, with a cash option of $715 million.

     Mega Millions will hold its next drawing will be held on Friday at 11:00pm.

      The New York Powerball lottery’s next drawing is tonight at 11pm, holding out an estimated jackpot of $730 million.

      Lottery ticket buyers, however, who like to dream of cashing in should beware. Math teacher Ben Orlin wrote on Vox that although many Americans say they buy lottery tickets because it is “fun,” Orlin points out that “In the long run, lottery tickets will almost always cost more than they’re worth.” 

   On Quora, Jeff Ronne wrote, “It is obscene the lottery is promoted to poor people when it only increases their poverty.

    “The government selling false hope to those trapped in a bad economic reality. [The lottery] reinforces and promotes bad economic decisions.”
