Four Alarm Fire Quickly Spread at 811 Cortelyou and Left No Injuries

A Large fire at 811 Cortelyou Road broke out at approximately 2:23 pm according to Deputy Assistant Chief Joseph Ferrante’s remarks at a press conference on the scene of the fire.

The fire apparently started on the sixth floor of the six-story building and quickly spread - reaching the cockloft.

Asked by NBC’ Myles Miller about why the fire spread so quickly, Chief Ferrante answered that because the fire reached the cockloft space which is a 2-3 foot gap between the top floor and the roof, the fire was able to then quickly spread throughout that open space.

Chief Ferrante also said that approximately 40 emergency FDNY vehicles responded to the scene - representing approximately 170 personnel.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters quickly ran hand hose lines to get water on the fire to extinguish it. They also ran a hose with a special nozzle that is able to reach into the cockloft space with a curved at the end of the hose.

Luckily there were no injuries on the scene of the fire by fire personnel or by civilians.
