One NYC Healthcare Worker out of 30,000 has Severe Reaction to COVID Vaccine

New York City has administered COVID-19 vaccinations to 30,000 people so far. Of those 30,000, 29,999 patients have reported no notable adverse reactions or significant side effects.

One health care worker, however, who has been treated and is now in stable condition, suffered “a significant allergic reaction.”

Although side effects and allergic reactions to remain uncommon, they do sometimes rarely occur, as Pfizer saw in clinical trials and other sporadic reports of adverse effects of the vaccine.

“This is the first serious adverse event we have encountered in New York City,” the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said in a statement. “We will continue to move forward with the coronavirus vaccine distribution to ensure that health care workers and nursing home staff and residents are protected against COVID-19.

The city’s Health Department is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control to closely track reports of any severe side effects patients might experience after taking the COVID vaccine.
