NYPD Deployed To Washington D.C. Ahead Of Expected Protests

Amidst rising tensions around the war in Israel, Netanyahu touched down in Washington DC on Monday evening ahead of his Congressional address scheduled this afternoon.
So far 50 Democratic lawmakers have announced that they’re boycotting his speech, and Vice President Kamala Harris won’t be in attendance either due to other engagements on her new campaign trail.
Netanyahu’s visit has already sparked outrage with protestors, who marched on the roads to Capitol Hill and in front of Bibi’s hotel on Monday and Tuesday. Videos released by the Palestinian Youth Movement claimed to have released maggots and other critters in the Watergate Hotel, where the Israeli delegation is staying.
Thousands of protestors are expected to surround Capitol Hill Wednesday afternoon during Bibi’s address to Congress, which prompted the Capitol Police to reach out for additional resources. In response, over 200 NYPD officers were deployed to the capital and were sworn in as US Capitol Special Officers to assist the police force.
“More than 200 of NYPD’s Finest are in DC and have been sworn in as United States Capitol Police Special Officers to assist in policing events this week at our nation’s capital,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner Daughtry tweeted. “These officers are some of the most highly trained and from some of the most specialized units in the Department and will use their knowledge and expertise to assist our law enforcement partners in DC. No matter the task, no matter the assignment, no matter how far from home, your NYPD will answer the call and ensure the public is safe and that democracy is protected.
In an interesting twist, the NYPD shared that en route to help out the PD in Washington D.C., they encountered a pursuit by the DC Police Dept and joined them till they reached and apprehended the individual.
