NYPD Dep. Chief Charles Scholl Retires Today after 41 Years of Serving New York City

Today, the NYPD’ honored Dep. Chief Charles M. Scholl, who has retired after serving South Brooklyn for the last 41 years.
In addition to protecting 11 different areas in New York City, Scholl, who served as the deputy chief of the 60th Precinct for the last 7 and a half years and serving as the executive officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, Dep. Chief Scholl often could be spotted in Boro Park, where he worked to reduce crime and orchestrated and patrolled many large events.
One police officer who paid honor to Dep. Chief Scholl today is NYPD Inspector Richie Taylor, a frum police officer, who told BoroPark24 that he owes much of his great training and success to Scholl.
“Whether it was proper deployment with regards to the holidays: Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, and Sukkos, Dep. Chief Scholl always made sure that the cops understood anything that they needed to know about Jewish people during Yom Tov, such as that they were not carrying identification, they don’t use electricity, that they need extra shul protection, and that every sukkah, especially those by shuls, are protected.
“He has a sensitivity, and that is what Dep. Chief Scholl is about: just providing the best police services possible and making sure that his cops also had the sensitivities to the diverse city that we have, especially in Boro Park.”
In addition to educating police about K’lal Yisroel, Dep. Chief Scholl provided a calm presence to a wide range of events that often take place in Boro Park.
“Any issue, whether it was a hachnassos sefer Torah to the most serious concerns, or even tragedies, of the community, Dep. Chief Scholl was there to ensure that everything went smoothly and that the NYPD could make any situation go as well as it could,” said Inspector Taylor, who added that he has known Dep. Chief Scholl since before Taylor became a police officer.
“He has taught me and guided me so well,” confided Inspector Taylor, who said that Dep. Chief Scholl is one of the mentors who is responsible for Taylor’s success. “He is a mensch of the highest level.”
To further honor and celebrate Dep. Chief Scholl’s many accomplishments and dedicated service, Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein and State Senator Simcha Felder presented Dep. Chief Scholl with a proclamation that celebrated his service.
