NYC to Create "COVID Checkpoints" at Airports, Bridges, and Other Crossings to Test and Enforce Travel Quarantine
By Yehudit Garmaise
Due to increased travelling this week because of the Thanksgiving holiday, this week, NYPD officers and health workers will be stationed at airports, bridges, crosses, Penn Station, and the Port Authority Bus terminal to strictly enforce the completion of traveler forms and provide COVID self-tests that will determine whether travelers must observe the mandatory 14-day quarantine to enter New York state.
In addition, the city workers will be stationed at vehicle checkpoints at key bridges and crossings. Also, police officers will be conducting “spot checks” at bus stations, where out-of-state buses drop off riders.
Teams that test and trace the sources of COVID will be directing travelers to testing sites and providing education on the 14-quarantine requirement that is mandatory for all travelers to New York state, unless they “test out,” NYPD Sheriff Joseph Fucito said.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has said that the 14-day quarantine will be enforced and could result in fines of $1,000 to $2,000 for anyone who violates it.
