NYC Sees Spike in Bike Theft Amidst Ongoing Pandemic
New York City bike thefts are surging during this ongoing pandemic era, the NYPD reports.
There have been 4,477 bikes stolen between March 1 and September 21, 2020, which is a 27 percent increase compared to the 3,506 stolen last year during the same period.
Simultaneously, cops have arrested less than two-thirds of the amount they arrested in 2019.
The spike comes as the city is experiencing A shortage of bikes.
Other major cities are as well dealing with bike theft during this time, the Times reported.
