NYC Schools Will Launch Outdoor Learning

On Monday, Mayor de Blasio announced that New York City public schools would launch outdoor learning in the fall as the Department of Education wrestles with the reopening of in-class learning during the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.

"We know outdoors is one of the things that works," de Blasio said. "It's going to open a lot of opportunities."

Schools have until Friday to construct and submit feasible outdoor learning plans, 13 days before NYC public schools officially reopen.

Questions about childcare and ventilation remain.

Chancellor Richard Carranza said city schools have hundreds of thousands of windows, so ventilation systems aren't a big concern.

De Blasio Promised to give working New York parents more information on city-sponsored childcare later this week.

"We are going to do a lot of hard work for our kids," de Blasio said. "We are going to invest in our children this fall.
