NYC Releases Vaccination Data by Zip Code, Only 3% of Boro Parkers Have Been Fully Vaccinated

   After reports of disparities in who was getting the vaccine and where, today the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene released data that reveals the percentages of the city’s populations who have been vaccinated. 

   “We are releasing new information today, zip code by zip code, to show what the vaccination rates are in this city, showing the disparities we still have to overcome,” said Mayor Bill De Blasio, who said that the data will allow the city to better “target its efforts.” 

    The data show that City Island in the Bronx leads New York City with highest percentage of adults vaccinated. That zip code, 10464, shows that 25% of the adult population of 3,510 have been fully vaccinated.

    In 11219, however, only 4%, or 2,533 adults out of a population of 57,913 adults have gotten their first shots, and 3%, or 1,816 adults have been fully vaccinated with both shots in Boro Park.

   While the city continually ramps up its efforts to receive more supply of the vaccine from the federal government and to provide more locations at which New Yorkers can get vaccinated, New Yorkers’ questions and concerns about the vaccine are also holding them back from getting the shot.

    Whether the vaccine affects the fertility of both men and women and whether the vaccine is safe in general are among the concerns commonly heard by Torian Easterling, MD, MPH, the First Deputy Commissioner, Chief Equity Officer of the city’s Department of Health.

   “We have been very clear that there is no evidence that the science does not support that there are any fertility concerns,” Dr. Easterling said this morning at the mayor’s press conference. “In terms of the timeline of the vaccine, there have been no shortcuts. The science is very clear that the vaccines are very safe and effective, that we know that the science is really supporting the effectiveness of both the Pfizer and the Modern vaccines and also the Johnson and Johnson vaccine,” which is expected to be forthcoming.
