NYC Public School Students Return to School Amid Lingering COVID-19 Concerns

Thousands of students returned to in-person learning today for the first time since the shutdown in March.
The return comes after the principle’s union declared Mayor Bill de Blasio and School Chancellor Richard Carranza incapable of handling the reopening.
The union is calling for the state education department to take control of city schools for the remainder of the pandemic; Governor Andrew Cuomo said the state would intervene if needed.
De Blasio said he would shut schools if the COVID-19 positive infection rate averaged three percent over a seven-day rolling average.
