NYC Passes Bill to Take Down Scaffolding Faster

By Y.M. Lowy
New York City’s streets are covered in about 400 miles of green scaffolding structures that seem to stay up forever. But the City Council has just passed a major set of bills to speed up the removal of sidewalk sheds
For years, these green scaffolding structures have crowded sidewalks, blocked storefronts, and darkened streets. The new laws will push property owners to complete repairs faster by requiring them to renew shed permits every 90 days instead of yearly. They also now permit brighter shed designs and make sure unnecessary installations aren't put up.
Mayor Adams called the legislation a win for New Yorkers, saying it will help bring light and open space back to sidewalks.
