NYC Mayor: Boro Park Saw an Increase in Coronavirus Cases, Traced to Recent Wedding
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city is tracing a recent outbreak of Coronavirus in Boro Park, and its been traced to a wedding that took place 2 weeks ago.
So far 16 people have tested positive while many more are waiting for their results, de Blasio said. The most recent outbreak comes after the neighborhood hasn’t seen any uptick in new cases in recent months.
The Mayor said there will be community engagement to ensure that people are getting tested, wearing masks and avoiding large gatherings, to try and avoid another spike in numbers.
Borough Park will get a Test + Trace Corps blitz similar to the one seen in Sunset Park with a barrage of robocalls and increased testing capacity, officials said.
While numbers rise in boro park, the city reached a landmark low. New York City reached a 0.24 percent testing rate, its lowest since COVID-19 first began its spread in March, the Mayor said. “The more we do to beat back this virus the more we can do to bring back this city."
