NYC Launches Baby Box Essentials Program

New York City is making life a little easier for new parents with the launch of NYC Baby Boxes, a new initiative providing free baby supplies and parenting resources to families leaving hospitals with their newborns.
Announced by Mayor Eric Adams, the program is designed to ease the financial burden that comes with a new baby. Starting later this year, families delivering at four NYC Hospitals locations will receive a box filled with essentials. The hospitals are Jacobi and Lincoln in the Bronx, Elmhurst in Queens, and Kings County in Brooklyn. They include diapers, wipes, baby clothing, bathing and feeding supplies.
A national survey found that nearly half of parents struggle to afford diapers, and some even skip meals to pay for them.
With more than 7,000 babies born at the participating hospitals each year, the program has the potential to make a big impact.
The program, backed by an initial $2.6 million investment, is part of the city’s broader effort to make New York a more family-friendly place.
