NYC Finally Shows Signs of Slowdown in Gun Violence

After months of a consistent rise in gun violence, Gotham finally shows signs of a slowdown in shootings.

For the first time in over four months, the number of people shot, 34, last week was the same as in 2019, new NYPD data shows.

This is a significant total compared to the 16 straight weeks in the summer when gun violence was up by nearly 300 percent at times.

In 2020, New York City’s total number of shootings has already surpassed 2015’s record-breaking year-end total, with 1,153 shootings recorded as of Monday.
