NYC Expanding Traffic Camera Enforcement

By Y.M. Lowy
New York City has chosen Verra Mobility to manage its traffic enforcement cameras, which catch speeding, red-light running, and other violations. The Department of Transportation is now negotiating a five-year contract with the company.
The city is expanding its red-light camera program from 150 to 600 intersections to improve safety. These cameras help reduce dangerous driving and prevent accidents.
Verra Mobility will update the city’s camera systems. DOT staff will continue reviewing all violations before issuing tickets, and the company will be paid a flat rate, not a share of ticket revenue.
