NYC DSA called out for Anti-Semitic City Council Requirements, Asking Candidates to Boycott Israel
In a 2021 city elections questionnaire, the NYC Democratic Socialists Of America (DSA) announced that every City Council candidate would be asked to pledge never to visit Israel to receive the endorsement of the group.
Zach Fink underlined the two questions in a tweet he posted. The first one asked, “Do you pledge to not travel to Israel if elected to City Council in solidarity with Palestinians living under occupation?” And the second one asked, “Do you support the Boycott Divestments and Sanctions Movement? If not, why?”
”I suppose we should proceed under the assumption that anyone who receives the NYC DSA endorsement has taken this pledge, ” Councilman Chaim Deutsch tweeted.
Local City Councilman Kalman Yeger said very well, “Thanks to @nycDSA for providing candidates the opportunity to put their anti-Semitic in writing. Looking forward to reading all the responses.”
Simcha Eichenstein hit back saying that the ”@nycDSA claims to stand for equality yet they ask candidate for an abhorrent pledge to disavow any support of and travel to Israel- the only country in the Middle East where all citizens are equal, and woman are allowed to drive, vote, and serve in the government and military.”
Pinky Ringel wrote, “Plain and simple #Antisenitism scary times ahead.”
Rep. Max Rose tweeted similarly on Thursday, saying, “This is anti-semitism. Plain and simple.”
