NYC amasses 150 million pieces of PPE, Mayor DeBlasio Announces

  By Yehudit Garmaise

Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has spent $900 million on Personal Protective Equipment for residents of New York City (PPE) said today that he “is taking zero chances on preparedness” to prepare for a second wave of COVID that “is at our doorstep.”

The stash of 150 million items of PPE, should be plenty to protect the more than 8.3 million residents of New York City, which the mayor said last night is certain to experience further shutdowns and restrictions as early as next week because of rising COVID rates.

The large collection of PPE, which includes surgical masks, isolation gowns, N95 masks, face shields, nitrate gloves, and goggles, also will assist healthcare, front-line workers, and teachers, when the schools re-open.

"New York City has stepped up so our front-line heroes and healthcare workers will have what they need to save lives,” the mayor said.

Months ago, when New York City was the epicenter of the COVID outbreak, the city announced that it would create and maintain a 90-day stockpile of PPE.
