In the wake of a deadly terror attack in New Orleans, New York City officials have expressed their condolences and heightened security measures.
Mayor Eric Adams took to X to offer his sympathy, stating, “Heartbreaking to wake up and hear of the horrific act of terrorism in New Orleans this morning. I am praying for the victims who lost their lives, all those who were injured, and the city in mourning today. We stand ready to offer our assistance in whichever way we can.”
Governor Kathy Hochul also shared her support, writing on X, “We pray for the families of those we lost and everyone impacted by last night’s horrific terror attack in New Orleans. We have no indication that there are any credible threats to New Yorkers. At my direction, the @nyspolice are on high alert to keep our communities safe.”
The NYPD issued a statement assuring New Yorkers of their safety, stating, “The NYPD has been closely monitoring recent events in New Orleans and coordinating with federal and regional partners. We have not identified any specific/credible threats or any nexus to New York City at this time.”
The tragic attack unfolded early Wednesday morning when a car plowed through a crowd of revelers in the French Quarter of New Orleans, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens more. The driver, who later emerged from the vehicle and opened fire on responding officers, was killed in a subsequent firefight. Two officers were wounded but are in stable condition.
The FBI is investigating the incident as an act of terrorism, and investigators are searching for potential explosive devices in the area. Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick described the driver’s actions as “very intentional” and aimed at causing as much harm as possible.
As the investigation continues, New Yorkers have been reassured that there are no specific threats to the city, and authorities are on high alert to protect the public.
