New York State 2020 Election Dates and Deadlines

With election day on Nov. 3, the deadline to register to vote in New York State is Oct. 9. You must register online, in person, or have your mail-in registration postmarked by this date.

Mail-in registration must be received no later than Oct. 14.

The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot is Oct. 27. It can be done either online, by email, fax, or mail. For guaranteed timely delivery, all requests should be made before Oct. 19.

New Yorkers can apply for an absentee ballot in person up until Nov. 2.

Early voting will begin Oct. 24 and end Nov. 1.

All absentee ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3, election day, or delivered to the local board of elections or a polling location by then.

Mailed absentee ballots must be received no later than Nov. 10. If you are a first-time voter who registered by mail, you may need to show ID to vote.
