New York Grounds Drones

By Y.M. Lowy

The skies over New York just got a little quieter. The FAA has temporarily banned drones from flying over more than two dozen critical locations across the state following weeks of mysterious drone activity.

Governor Kathy Hochul, who requested the restrictions, called the move a precautionary step to protect public safety. “There are no threats right now, but we’re staying ahead of the curve,” she assured New Yorkers.

The state recently received cutting-edge drone detection technology from the Biden-Harris Administration, adding an extra layer of defense. Hochul also urged Congress to pass laws giving local authorities more tools to regulate drone use.

As officials monitor the situation, one thing is clear: New York is taking drone security to new heights.
