New York City Eases Drought Warning

By Y.M. Lowy
Good news for New Yorkers! Mayor Eric Adams and DEP Commissioner Rohit Aggarwala have announced that the city’s drought warning has been downgraded to a drought watch. Thanks to recent rain and melting snow, the city’s reservoirs are filling up again, reducing the risk of a water shortage.
Additionally, the pause in the Delaware Aqueduct repair project has helped bring more water from important reservoirs, making the city’s water supply more flexible and secure.
Mayor Adams emphasized that while conditions are improving, it’s still important to keep conserving water, especially as the city faces challenges from climate change.
The city’s water system is strong and reliable, serving nearly 10 million people, and the recent rain has helped ensure it will continue to meet the needs of New Yorkers.
